Privacy policy
How SnapDF handles your data, and why your documents stay out of sight.

Our view on privacy
At SnapDF we believe scanning and digitising personal documents should stay private. Many online PDF converters upload your files to external servers. SnapDF is deliberately designed to remove that risk: your documents are never stored on our servers or on external servers.
Website and scanner are separate
To protect your privacy and keep things transparent, we strictly separate our architecture:
Main domain (www.snapdf.net)
Our information and documentation site. To keep the project free we show articles here and, with your consent, Google AdSense ads.
Web app (web.snapdf.net)
The actual scanner. This environment is ad-free and contains no third-party tracking code. Scans travel end-to-end encrypted over a peer-to-peer (WebRTC) connection between your phone and PC.
How the scanner processes data
- Peer-to-peer transfer: photos go over WebRTC directly to your computer's browser and are end-to-end encrypted in transit. Nothing is stored on a server.
- Pairing and fallback: to connect the devices we use PeerJS (signalling) and a Google STUN server; only connection details such as IP addresses pass through them. If a direct connection isn't possible, the traffic may pass through a relay (TURN). Thanks to end-to-end encryption, even that relay can't read the photos.
- Local editing (Canvas and jsPDF): perspective correction, filters and the final PDF are processed in your browser's memory.
- No cloud storage: as soon as you close the browser tabs, all data is wiped from memory.
Advertising and Google AdSense
On our main domain we use Google AdSense to show ads, but only after you click ‘Accept’ in the cookie banner. Google may then use cookies and web beacons to show ads based on your earlier visits to this or other websites. If you choose ‘Necessary only’, we don't load Google AdSense.
More about cookies and how to switch them off is in our cookie policy.
