SnapDF

Frequently asked questions

Everything you want to know about scanning documents quickly and safely with SnapDF.

Is SnapDF really 100% free?

Yes. There is no subscription, no account and no hidden cost. The running costs of this information website are covered by ads on the main domain.

Why don't I need to download an app?

SnapDF uses modern browser technology (WebRTC and the MediaDevices API), so the scanner runs straight from the browser on your phone and computer. You're not tied to app stores or account requirements.

Are my documents stored on an external server?

No. Photos travel end-to-end encrypted over a peer-to-peer (P2P) connection from your phone to your computer, usually directly. If a direct connection isn't possible, the traffic may pass through a relay server, which can't read the photos and doesn't keep them. Pairing itself is handled via PeerJS. Close the browser window and all data is wiped from the memory of your devices.

Which phones and browsers are supported?

SnapDF works on virtually all modern smartphones (iPhone with Safari, Android with Chrome or Firefox) combined with a laptop or desktop running a modern browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge or Safari). Both devices need an internet connection to pair via the QR code.

What if my phone and PC won't connect?

Check that neither device is behind a strict corporate firewall or an active VPN that blocks P2P traffic (WebRTC). Refreshing the page on both devices and scanning the QR code again often helps. More tips are on the troubleshooting page.
